League Co-founder J. W. McFarland, Jr. Resigns

EUTAW: TS Police Support League, Inc. Co-founder and longtime Secretary/ Treasurer J. William McFarland, Jr. JD will resign from his officer positions and from the Board of Directors effective Tuesday, December 31, 2024. McFarland stated, “It has been a blessing from God to serve the people of Greene County in this capacity since 2013. I have worked in Greene County since 2008 through my previous employment in economic development with the West Alabama Regional Commission and later with The University of West Alabama and Judson College. It is now time to pursue other opportunities, but I bid my friends in Greene County a Merry Christmas and a fond farewell.” McFarland previously served as Director of the Center for Business and Economic Services and Special Assistant to President Richard D. Holland at The University of West Alabama and Special Assistant to the President for Business Development to President David Potts at Judson College.

Merry Christmas from TS Police Support League!

EUTAW: TS Police Support League, Inc. donated $2800 towards the purchase of a large artificial Christmas tree for display on the historic Courthouse Square in downtown Eutaw.

“Jesus is the reason for the season, and we are happy to make funding available for this Christmas tree that will serve the City of Eutaw for years to come,” stated Sheila H. Smith, TS Police Support League president.

“The historic Courthouse Square is an important community asset, and we are proud to help beautify it at this special time of year. Merry Christmas!,” stated J. William McFarland, Jr. TS Police Support League Secretary/ Treasurer.

TS Police Support League has donated over $8 million dollars to the greater Greene County Community from 2020-2024.

2000 Turkeys Distributed in Greene County!

EUTAW: On Saturday, November 23, TS Police Support League hosted its 8th Annual Great

Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at the Palace Bingo Live parking lot in Knoxville, Alabama.

This year, residents and law enforcement officers from Greene, Hale, and Pickens counties

received one of 2000 turkeys distributed by the league, a charity bingo operator based in Eutaw.

“With inflation impacting the budgets of families all over our region, we are blessed to be able to

continue to expand our annual tradition,” stated Sheila Gene Smith, President of the League.

“We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, and are grateful to Jesus Christ for his blessings this

year,” remarked J. W. McFarland, Jr., Secretary/ Treasurer of the League.

TS Police Support League is Title Sponsor of Greene County EMS Charity Rodeo

The TS Police Support League, Inc. donates $5000.00 to serve as title sponsor of the upcoming Greene County EMS Charity Benefit Rodeo, to be held in Eutaw on Saturday, October 5 at 6:00 PM.

In the past, TSPSLI has supported the Greene County EMS in several significant endeavors, including the complete renovation of an ambulance as well as providing funds for the purchase of a used ambulance.

TS Police Support League Continues Support Of E-911

EUTAW: TS Police Support League, Inc. recently donated $13,724.16 to help cover operational/ payroll costs for the Greene County E-911 Service. “Thanks to tough economic times and a contemporaneous reduction of donations, costs have continued to rise for Greene County E-911,” stated Sheila Gene Smith, President of the TSPSLI. “We are making this donation to help ensure that the citizens of Greene County continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to emergency service providers—this access must be funded 24/7/365,” continued Smith.

“We encourage all local citizens, businesses, and governmental partners to join us in support of Greene County E-911,” stated J. W. McFarland, Jr., Secretary/ Treasurer of TSPSLI. “The TS Police Support League has made several previous donations to Greene County E-911, including $25000.00 to help furnish their new headquarters/ office building,” McFarland remarked.

TSPSLI Purchases $12000 in Uniforms for New School Year

EUTAW: On Thursday, August 1, 2024, TS Police Support League donated $12,000.00 to the Knoxville Community Center’s initiative to purchase new school uniforms for children in rural Greene County, just in time for the new school year. “Inflation continues to rise, so costs for Greene County families are rising. This donation will provide much-needed relief to families with school children in rural Greene County,” stated Sheila Hann Smith, President of the TSPSLI. “Charity bingo operating pursuant to Amendment 743 of the Alabama Constitution continues to keep the green in Greene County,” stated J. W. McFarland, Jr., Secretary/ Treasurer of the league.

TS Police Support League Completes Fifth Annual Summer Work Program for Greene County Youth

 EUTAW: TS Police Support League, Inc. completed its’ fifth annual summer work program for 70 Greene County youth on Friday, June 28.  These youths worked twenty (20) hours per week for the month of June at local businesses, nonprofits, and governmental offices to gain real-world experience as well as the opportunity to earn extra money during their summer break. 

“Real-world job training is a win-win for both the students and the community.  Workforce preparation is essential for future success,” stated Sheila Gene Smith, President of the TS Police Support League, Inc.  She added, “We are especially grateful for our business and governmental agency partners for helping facilitate this opportunity for our youth.” “We hope to continue to have the opportunity to keep the green in Greene County,” stated J. W. McFarland, Jr., TS Police Support League Secretary/ Treasurer.

TS Police Support League Kicks Offs Fifth Summer Work Program for Young Adults

EUTAW: TS Police Support League, Inc. President Sheila Gene Smith announces that, for the fifth year, the organization will place 75 Greene County youth in summer jobs. The high school youth will work in local businesses and governmental offices/ departments, gaining real-world employment preparation experience while earning month. “This workforce preparation program teaches youth soft skills as well, such as punctuality and courteous/ professional business etiquette,” stated Smith. The program is the largest of its kind in Greene County, Alabama, the smallest rural county in the state by population. “Charity bingo beings the green to Greene County,” said J. W. McFarland, Jr., Secretary/ Treasurer of the league. “We are proud to be part of positive progress and development for the greater Greene County region,” McFarland said.

TSPSLI Helps Keep Greene County Public Golf Course Open

EUTAW: TS Police Support League, Inc. presented a $10,000.00 donation to the Greene County Public Golf Course which will allow them to remain operational for three (3) months as options for long-term sustainability are explored. TSPSLI President Sheila Hann Smith stated, “The Greene Couty Public Golf Course is a vital outdoor amenity in Greene County, and we cannot stand by and allow it to permanently close.  Hundreds travel to play the 9-hole course each year, providing an important tourist attraction to the economy of the county.”   TSPSLI has supported the course in the past, as well.  The course operates on land owned by the Greene County Commission.
